Gothic interior décor ideas

From this article, you can get a couple of interesting ideas on how to decorate your room or apartment in the Gothic style and give it an atmosphere of mystery and enigma. Of all the known interior design styles, the Gothic style is one of the most interesting and unique. It originated in the Middle Ages. There is a misconception that this style is gloomy and only suitable for introverted individuals. This is entirely incorrect because Gothic interior design is characterized by elegance and a rich color palette.

There are a few tips on how you can turn your room's interior into a Gothic one.

1 High Ceilings: Unfortunately, if your apartment ceiling is 8 feet or lower, it's best to avoid the Gothic style. It requires ample space and a sense of grandeur, which is simply not possible in an apartment with ceilings lower than 8.5 - 9 feet.

2 Vertical orientation: In this style, a significant role is played by the room's spaciousness and vertical orientation - interior items and windows appear to reach upward, creating an impressive atmosphere in the space. In the room, it's a good idea to have vertical furniture, like a tall mirror, a vertical cabinet, or a bedside table. Vertical shelves can also add the right style. It could be a tall metal candle holder or another metal interior item that points upwards.

3 Color Palette: The medieval period is shrouded in mystery and mysticism, which is why the Gothic style is characterized by dark shades like brown, burgundy, black, blue, dark green, purple, and violet. Purple curtains, a black sofa, or black armchair will immediately give your room the desired Gothic style. A purple rug can also work well for this role.

4 Furniture and Elegant Details: Gothic style in design isn't just about high ceilings and big sofas. Small but significant details like antique vases or heavy candelabras help create the desired atmosphere. Gothic furniture boasts a majestic yet refined aesthetic. All wooden elements are adorned with intricate carvings, including the bed's headboard, table legs, and chair backs. The interior also features wrought iron details. The bed is furnished with a canopy, adding a touch of romance to the bedroom. A full-length mirror in a metal frame and a substantial chest that securely holds secrets complete this style.

4 Lighting: During the Middle Ages, light came into castles through tall windows with ornate iron bars. Nowadays, we use modern light sources like lamps and fixtures. A decorative iron chandelier is often hung from the ceiling in the center of the room.

5 Flooring: Antique or antique-style. Elaborate, intricate patterns of artistic parquet flooring or ceramic tile mosaics are the most suitable options. It's preferable to choose finishing materials in dark tones - this pays homage to history since taking care of light floors during the Gothic era was problematic.

The ideal finishing material is genuine marble, but unfortunately, it can be quite expensive. Therefore, not everyone can afford to cover large areas with it. However, in the past, there were no alternatives to the expensive natural material, but today, it can be successfully replaced with artificial options. There are also various materials that mimic the texture of marble and other stones. For flooring, you can choose granite tiles, wooden planks, or parquet.

6 Fireplace: It's wonderful if you have a fireplace with a wrought iron grille in the room. In fact, any wrought iron furniture items can give the room a Gothic style.

7 Walls: It can be made in solid colors, with bright accents. Use purple, gold, and silver colors in wall decorations to add more luxury. You can use our decals to give your room an even greater Gothic ambiance.
